The older we become, the more we are aware of our love for children and our desire to empower them. Books empower children. The ability to read can change their world, making it better and brighter. Books stimulate the imagination—one of our greatest gifts.

As we worked on Sweet P’s book, a mission formed. We decided to use Sweet P’s story to help children see how friendships and trust can help them face their fears.

We also wanted to protect children. That is why we are donating a generous portion of all profits to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. This nonprofit organization has a CyberTipline that processes reports concerning crimes against children and divisions that help find missing children.

Over the past few years our local paper has periodically written articles on child pornography, one of the fastest growing crimes in the United States. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children “at least 100,000 American children a year are victimized through child sexual exploitation.” From these articles and our research, we’ve learned that any child—male or female—at any age, including babies, can be targeted. It’s so very sad, so very hard to believe, and so shocking that child pornography is growing, even thriving, in our country.

We want to help educate all people that all Children are treasures to be loved and respected.

We appreciate your support. Together, we can make a child’s world better and brighter.

Thank you,
Joan Durbin and Ruth Ann Cowling
